Toronto & Vancouver FIFA World Cup 2026: Canada Fan Guide
Everything you need to know about attending FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Canada β BMO Field in Toronto, BC Place in Vancouver, visas, transport links, and what to explore.
Canada hosts FIFA World Cup 2026 matches across two cities: Toronto (BMO Field) and Vancouver (BC Place). Both are world-class destinations with exceptional food scenes, multicultural fan communities, and strong football cultures. For fans travelling the North American circuit, the Canadian venues offer some of the most scenic and distinctive match-day settings of the entire tournament.
Toronto β BMO Field
BMO Field is the home of Toronto FC and the Canadian national men's and women's teams. It sits on the waterfront in Exhibition Place, about 3 kilometres west of downtown Toronto. The stadium holds approximately 30,000 for football and has been expanded for World Cup capacity. Its waterfront location is one of the most scenic in the tournament β views of Lake Ontario from the upper tiers are spectacular.
To get to BMO Field from downtown, take the 509 or 511 streetcar from Union Station (the central transit hub) along the Lakeshore West to Exhibition Place β about a 15-minute ride. On match days, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) runs extra services to handle the crowds.
Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities on Earth, and the fan communities for almost every competing nation are well-represented. The city's football bars β particularly in the Portuguese neighbourhood of Little Portugal, the Italian district along St. Clair, and the Sports Entertainment District downtown β will be extraordinary match-day destinations regardless of which teams are playing.
Where to Stay in Toronto
- Downtown / King West: Best location for transport, bars, and restaurants. Within walking distance of Union Station for BMO Field access.
- Yorkville: Upscale neighbourhood with excellent hotels and easy subway access.
- The Distillery District: Unique and atmospheric, with short transit access to Union Station.
Book accommodation early. Toronto hosts a significant number of group-stage matches and the city's hotel market during major sporting events fills fast.
Travel Documents for Canada
Visitors to Canada need a valid passport and, depending on nationality, either a Canadian Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) or a visitor visa. The eTA is required for most visa-exempt nationalities flying into Canada and costs CAD $7 β apply online at the IRCC website. Citizens of countries without a visa-exemption agreement with Canada require a visitor visa, which takes longer to process. Apply before you book anything else.
US citizens and permanent residents do not need an eTA or visa to enter Canada but do need a passport (or NEXUS card) for land crossings.
Vancouver β BC Place
BC Place in downtown Vancouver is one of the most iconic stadium settings in the entire tournament. The retractable-roof stadium sits on the north bank of False Creek, with the mountains of the North Shore visible from the upper bowl on clear days. The stadium holds 54,000 for football and has hosted major international events including the 2010 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the 2015 Women's World Cup Final.
BC Place is a short walk from Vancouver city centre and accessible on foot from the Yaletown-Roundhouse and BC Place/Beatty Street SkyTrain stations. Vancouver's SkyTrain system is one of the best automated transit networks in North America β clean, reliable, and covering most of the tourist destinations in the city.
Where to Stay in Vancouver
- Yaletown: The neighbourhood immediately adjacent to BC Place. Walking distance to the stadium and to the waterfront.
- Gastown: The historic heart of Vancouver, with excellent restaurants and craft beer bars. Short SkyTrain ride to BC Place.
- West End: Near Stanley Park and English Bay beach. Quieter and more residential, but easy access to the transit network.
Connecting to Seattle by Bus
Vancouver connects south to Seattle via the FifaBus2026 Pacific corridor β a scenic 3.5 to 4-hour coach journey crossing the US-Canada border at the Peace Arch crossing. Bring your passport and ensure you have the appropriate US entry documentation. For fans attending matches in both Canadian cities and Seattle, the bus corridor creates a natural North Pacific itinerary: Vancouver β Seattle β San Francisco β Los Angeles.
